Question: What education do I need to become EDIT™ Certified?
Answer from Dr. Dorie: There are no education requirements to become EDIT™ Certified. However, the more education you have, the easier the EDIT™ Certified curriculum will be for you to fully comprehend. If you have a Masters Degree in Counseling, a Doctorate in Psychology, or equivalent education, then you likely received some education about eating disorders in your coursework. Some portions of the EDIT™ Certified education segments can serve as a review for you – although the EDIT™ Theory and Techniques will provide you with new concepts about the etiology and treatment of eating disorders from an integrative perspective. Q: Do I need to have experience working with eating disorders to become EDIT™ Certified?
A: It is ideal to have some type of experience with eating disorders – either as a wellness professional, or through your own recovery from an eating disorder, or as a support person for someone in recovery. Your personal and/or professional experience with eating disorders will give you an inherent sense of compassion for the clients you may work with. In addition, your experience can make the eating disorder education segments of the EDIT™ Certified training programs easier to understand. But even without any experience, you can still learn! No matter what your previous experience, the EDIT™ Certified credential can provide eating disorder coach certification with the basic foundations you need to guide your own clients in recovery from eating disorders, or to teach workshops about eating disorder recovery.
